How Our Thoughts Determines Our Lives?

My husband and I always have discussions about random things. We’re both knowledge nerds so we tend to have some interesting discussions. We recently were discussing motivation and complacency. He asked me why do some people give up compare to others? What makes them different than other people who don’t give up? Of course, I’m not an expert in this topic but I try to apply my life into how I answer questions, speaking from my opinion, experience, and research.

 

 

There is so many successful people who have made it even when all odds were against them. So how do they do it? Scientists say that only 8% of people that make a New Year resolution achieve the goal. 8% of people only achieve the goal, this is insane and only 1% of the population is successful and 95% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck according to Titanium Success. Even reading this makes people gets discouraged because they already believe it’s impossible. I like numbers but numbers often make people that are unmotivated, fearful, and discouraged, give up.

 

 

So, why is it that some people achieve their goals and others don’t? The truth is I believe people genuinely want to achieve something in life, but they accept what is instead of what could be. Everyone has potential inside of them. We all want more and I’m not speaking in terms of material things. I mean we all want to fulfill what we believe is our purpose in life. Sometimes we just get stuck and give up on trying to get there. We look at our past generations and think if they didn’t do it how can I do it and at that point we accept it as is.

 

When I started the journey of self-development, I didn’t know where to start but I knew I wanted to have more. They say surround yourself with people who are doing well in life. You are like the five people you spend the most time with. I didn’t have friends in my life at the time that was doing well and mature. I didn’t know who could mentor me. I had to start my journey even if everyone else around me were not on the right path. Yes, I think it’s important to have successful friends, family members, mentors, people who you can interact with in person and not just listen to them on webinars and podcasts, but it doesn’t always work that way.

 

 

If you are around people who don’t want to grow in life it can cause you to get knocked off your path if you are not mentally strong. Surrounding yourself with people who talk negatively, gossip, low frequency hobbies that don’t add value to where you want to go in life are going to cause you to give up. These people mean no harm they are just expressing themselves, but it can affect how you see life. If you see it from a negative perspective, then you won’t believe that everything you want to accomplish will happen. I had to start minimizing the time I spent with people who are adding toxic behaviors to my life and no I should not be influence by others, but the reality is bad habits eventually rubs off on people. If you want to make better choices and life a life you are happy with then you must distance yourself until you develop a good mindset.

 

 

Developing a good mindset is key. This is the best thing anyone can do if you want to accomplish things in life. People give up so often because their mind is weak. It fills us with lies about who it thinks we are from past experiences, generational experiences from our ancestors, mistakes, and the list goes on. Everything that we hate about our past will always try to get in the way of where we are heading in life. Accomplishing a goal that you never done before is going to be hard, why because it’s new. Remember when you started walking as a toddler you tried, and you fell down a few times until you got the hang of it. Then you started talking and feeding yourself solid foods and the list goes on. We are capable of achieving anything we want in life it’s our minds we have to convince.

 

 

Dr. Caroline Leaf has an excellent book to read if you feel stuck in life or feel like you can’t accomplish the goals you set up for yourself. The book is called “Switch on Your Brain” it has a 21-Day Brain Detox Plan and it’s broken up in two parts. The first part of the book explains the science behind the brain and mind relationship and the second part dives into the detox portion. She explains how “our thoughts, imagination, and choices can change the structure and function of our brain on every level, your physical brain and body, your mental health, and your spiritual development. This is referred to as Epigenetics.

 

 

“Epigenetic changes represent a biological response to an environmental signal. That response can be inherited through the generations via the epigenetic mark.” (Dr. Caroline Leaf) Hence why people say generational curses are real. These genetics are passed on from our parents to us and you can have the gene, but you must send the signal for the gene to be activated. So, if a person says, “my mother had depression, and that’s why I have depression, and now my daughter has depression then the epigenetic marks are activated.” (Dr. Caroline Leaf) This is the reason why some people give up when all odds are against them because they were born already at a disadvantage. If your parents suffered from something or the generations before, then you have that gene, but you don’t have to activate it.

 

 

You can accomplish any goal you set out to accomplish in life but if your mind is weak you will have a hard time achieving anything. Our mind controls our thoughts, actions, and life and if you are finding yourself going in circles or if you feel like giving up maybe it’s time to start being honest with your mental health. I suffered from mental health and it was hard trying to crawl out of that dark place but the only way you can come out of that dark place is first asking for help. Talk to someone you trust that has a good mindset because if they have the same mindset as you that’s more toxicity for your brain. Make an appointment with your doctor, counselor, mentor, invest in a life coach and get your life back on track. I have a mentor and I think is important to have multiple mentors because they can help you with different things you want to accomplish in life. You are powerful you just must believe it!
