Crying is good for you. I used to think crying was a sign of weakness, but I realized that it was a form of strength. When you cry it releases toxins and relives stress, so if you are trying to avoid crying it can cause more damaged to your body. Crying also helps boost your mood. If something upsets me, I cry and let it out then I feel so much better afterwards, its like my body had to get it out before I could feel better. Another benefit to crying is that it releases oxytocin and endorphins the feel-good chemicals which helps alleviate physical and emotional pain.
Most people don’t like crying even though it is beneficial to our souls. We have been told for many years to suck it up, so our emotions go uncared for. We become these emotionless creatures because we don’t want anyone to think we are weak. We want to be looked at as someone who is strong and has it all together even if everything on the inside is falling apart. I thought I had to be this person because I felt if I cried it was me not being strong enough. I also did not want others seeing me cry because people look at you strange when they see you crying. They come up with all these judgmental comments on why you’re crying which doesn’t make the situation any easier. Of course, you should not worry about what others thing but sometimes when you are going through a tough time this just adds more gasoline to the fire.
Holding it in was the hardest part of not crying. Smile it’s going to be okay. Keep trying harder and maybe this time you’ll get it. You must work hard. Don’t give up. Be strong. These were things I kept telling myself so that I would not give up. This is what helped me keep it together and not break down, but its okay to break down. We may do it multiple times in life. If we don’t let our bodies express the emotions it is feeling it can cause chemical imbalance, hence the reason why people suffer from depression and anxiety. I know this to be true because I have suffered from both. I didn’t want to admit it but holding things in was not the best solution. Years after years of doing this, crying in the bathroom alone, wiping my tears away, and facing the world like everything was okay.
Releasing the anger and hurt through tears is what helps us in tough situations. There are multiple ways to express our emotions so that our body does not live in stress mode all the time. Stress is detrimental to the body, it causes autoimmune disease and a lot of other illnesses, and it doesn’t help make our life better. So, I would advise you to limit your participation in stressful situations unless its good stress. Yes, there is a form of good stress, also referred to as eustress, the stress you feel when you are excited. For example, riding a roller coaster, going on your first date, or receiving a promotion. Eustress is good for us but like anything in life, everything is good in moderation. That’s why excessive stressing is not good for the body.
So, remember today, crying is good for the body, it releases toxins and it makes us feel better afterwards. There are going to be things in life that’s going to make us laugh or cry, express those emotions. We are emotional creatures, its instilled in use and it’s what makes us human. So have a good cry and a good laugh because what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger and stronger all over again. Crying is a sign of strength not weakness don’t be afraid to cry.
“Do not apologize for crying. Without this emotion, we are only robots.”
