Have you ever felt stuck in life? I have. People ask me for advice all the time and I am able to help them, but when I need advice, I don’t know how to help myself sometimes. One of my biggest fears, that I have to quiet every once in a while, is failure. When I feel stuck I start thinking the worst things possible, instead of focusing on what lead to me feeling stuck. Feeling stuck isn’t always a bad thing. If you’re like me who has ideas constantly running through your head throughout the day it’s good to give your brain a break.
Our brain is constantly processing information and when you’re constantly throwing idea after idea around in your head it makes it harder to figure out the right decision to make. This is something I often struggle with. It can be as simple as deciding on what to wear for the day. Though struggling with finding the perfect outfit for the day doesn’t affect my life drastically, struggling to make decisions for my career does. I am currently pursing a degree in Business Management. Last semester I had to complete a business proposal for the type of business I will like to open.
When I was working on the project, reality set in, I needed to start thinking about the type of business I wanted to start, before I graduated. Starting a business takes a lot of work and you have to make sure you have the right licenses and permits to legally operate. If you are going to have employees than you have to have insurance and all sorts of things. So many things have to be completed before you actually can start your operations. So as I thought about the business I wanted to open I got stuck.
I have a lot of hobbies and I enjoy all of them, equally. There’s a Mark Anthony quote that says “if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Yes, this is true, but I was still confused on what I wanted to do with my life. I’m 30 years old and some of my nieces and nephews and even my friends look up to me. They all think I have it together but they don’t know sometimes I get stuck. The fact that I have a lot of people counting on me adds even more pressure for me to keep going. In life sometimes you get stuck but it’s only bad when you don’t know how to get your life back on track.
Fear is a big contributor. You have to learn how to stop doubting yourself because if your looking for failure it will find you. Fear is one of those things that everyone has screaming at them about every decision they make. It only affect you, if you allow it to. I have came to the realization that my fearful thoughts may never ever go away. So when I feel them creeping in, I acknowledge them, and tell them, in my mind, to go away.
Feeling stuck can be hard, trust me I been there, but you don’t have to stay there. Whatever you want out of life, you will achieve it, you just have to believe in yourself. So as you go about your day, remember it’s okay to feel stuck, but it’s not okay to stay stuck. The things you want in life might seem beyond your reach, but if you can think it, you can achieve it.
“Fear is the glue that keeps you stuck. Faith is the solvent that sets you free.” -Shannon L. Alder
