I Started Writing in a Journal

16.07.2018

I have notebooks laying around my house with beautiful messages on them. I love notebooks, especially colorful ones. These past months I have been focusing on improving myself. I recently started writing in a journal. When I start my day I get my journal out and I write one thing I'm thankful for and I give myself one compliment. Before I go to bed, I thank God for my day, reflect on what I'm thankful for, and what I like about myself. This month I have been sharing tips on how I start my day. I truly believe the attitude we have when we start our day can effect the way we see life. I use my journal as a self motivating tool. When I write what I am thankful for it reminds me of how fortunate I am. When I write a compliment about myself, it reminds me of who I am.

When you wake up with a thankful heart and have confidence in who you are, you are less likely to let things ruin your day. Sometimes in life we forget to appreciate the small things. When life isn't going our way we often want to throw in the towel. I use to struggle with this. I would let people ruin my whole day and I would find my seIf rehashing the events in my head over and over again. Improving the way we react to things starts with being thankful. I encourage everyone to write in a journal. Its relaxing and you're able to get your thoughts out of your head. I use to keep a journal in one of my previous relationships. I would write in it every time me and my ex-boyfriend would have a fight. When I read that journal I had to put it down. I couldn't finish reading it.

There was a lot of negative junk involved in that relationship and it was just too much to read. That wasn't my best relationship and Im sure we had some happy moments but my journal of that relationship was negative. I was so focused on how horrible he was to me that even if there was a ounce of good in the relationship my memories were only of the bad. Thats how life is sometimes. We tend to focus on the negative things that happen to us versus the positive things that happen to us.  We forget how fortunate we are to have a family, a job, a car, a place to sleep every night. We don't remember our accomplishments because we're so focused on our failures. When you start your day, write in a journal, remind yourself of the many blessings you already have, then you will be less likely to worry about the small stuff. Life is easy but we tend to make it harder for ourselves. When I decided to work on improving myself I realized that my attitude was something I needed to work on.

I didn't look at things for what they could be. I looked at things for what they were at the moment. I would find myself being hopeless about my circumstances in life and I felt like giving up a lot. My journal is one of the many things that has kept me grounded. I know that I am blessed. I know that though I might not have the job I want right now, I know where I am going. I just have to stay motivated. My journal keeps me motivated to pursue my goals. I didn't realize how much writing on a piece of paper could help kick start my day. So as you go about your day I believe it is important to start a journal. If you don't want to start a journal then reflect on the good things that are happening in your life before you start your day. Don't think about the bad things. You need positive energy to help propel you through your day.

"The starting point of discovering who you are, your gifts, your talents, your dreams, is being comfortable with yourself. Spend time alone. Write in a journal. Take long walks in the woods." -Robin S. Sharma
