Mondays are hard. After a weekend off it's hard getting up on Monday Mornings. We spend the whole weekend sleeping in and now its time to start a new week. We all want to hit the snooze button and call out of work. Our bed is our comfort zone. Its warm, comfortable, and inviting. We don't have to worry about taking on the world when we are in our beds but eventually reality sets in to remind us of our bills. The snooze button used to be my best friend alone with the five alarms I set to wake me up. Its not normal to set more than one alarm to get up but it seem normal to me. I was convinced this was how my life was suppose to operate. One alarm was to remind me that its almost time to get up, five minutes later was another alarm, until the final alarm rung after thirty minutes to tell me that I needed to get up immediately. I would jump out bed, rushing, trying to hurry up and get dressed, to start my day.
I was always rushing. I wasn't starting my day with greatness. I was setting myself up for failure. When we start our day, that is the time we need to set the stage for it. When we are constantly hitting the snooze button it actually has a negative effect on our sleep which effects the way we start our day. If you want to start your day with greatness you have to give yourself time to relax before you start your day. I couldn't live an inspiring lifestyle being cranky. I had to eventually get rid of those five alarms and practice not hitting the snooze button. I started setting an alarm thrifty minutes earlier then the time I wanted to get out of bed. On the days I knew I wanted to get up at 6 o'clock, I would set my alarm for 5:30. This gave me time to reflect on my plans for the day and give thanks to God for a new day. How we get up each day will set the tone for our day. If we get up rushing then we will be rushing all day. If we get up in a bad mood then we will have an attitude all day. If we wake up feeling negative then we won't acknowledge the positive things that we come across in our day. We have the power to set the tone for our day but it starts with the way we wake up.
Taking a break off on the weekend and sleeping in can also make it harder for when Monday comes. So I try not to sleep in on the weekends because our bodies like routine. After sleeping in all weekend our body feels like its starting all over when Monday comes. I know we get tired of getting up early but our bodies were made to be up in the day time and asleep at night. Starting your day off with greatness means starting it off with a good attitude. Taking a few minutes before you start your day will help you achieve this type of attitude. When you wake up, be thankful for the new day. Take time to reflect on your goals while listening to some motivational music.
During this time, don't check your emails, social media, or phone messages. This is your time to yourself. This is whats going to help you prepare for the challenges of your day. Once you have taken this time for yourself now you can give the world the rest of your time. We are often irritated because we start our day off rushing without taking time for ourselves. If we use the first thirty minutes of our day to mentally prepare ourselves for the day we will be more likely to have a great day. I know that it is not going to be easy trying to master this because it wasn't easy for me. I had to make this change in my life because I knew that it was beneficial to my whole wellbeing.
So Remember today to start your day with greatness. The hardest part of your day is getting up but if you were able to get up today then you're one step closer to completing your dreams. Some days are going to be harder than others, but if you start your day in a positive direction, your day only goes up from there.
"How you start your day is how you live your day. How you live your day is how you live your life."
