In life sometimes were always searching to be accepted, loved, wanted. I went through a period in my life where I wanted to be loved though I had love from family, I also wanted the world to love me. I wanted to be accepted, I was the skinny girl with freckles, though to a runway model this was an ideal body but to me, I didn’t like it. I wanted to look like my older sisters, they had curves and they were so beautiful and cool. I was a nerd, in fact they called me nerd, but they thought it was a compliment. I on the other hand didn’t agree. I never told them this, but I didn’t always like being labeled as a nerd. Yes, I was a smart kid and I really enjoyed learning but being a nerd was not cool.
Don’t every child want to be cool; I mean we all want to be accepted especially as children. When you go to school you want people to play at recess with you, talk to you at lunch. No one wants to be alone. I had friends but I wanted cooler friends. Sometimes we have good things in our lives, but we still search for more. We try to fit in, be a rebel, break rules, become someone blatantly opposite than ourselves because in our mind we are not good enough. No matter how hard you try to change yourself, you’ll still struggle with acceptance.
It’s important to be the person who you want to be. I share this with young children and my own children because no one ever told me that being a nerd was cool. No one ever told me that being skinny was okay. Though no one never told me this was okay didn’t mean that it was not okay. Start spending time with people who accept you for who you are. Laugh and have fun and don’t ever stop being the amazing person that you were created to be. We are our worst critics, but people are also so learn to love and accept yourself for who you are so that no one will detour you from being something amazing.
The truth is no matter what you do in life someone is going to always have something negative to say about you. So why waste your time becoming someone you do not want to be? Remember today be who you want to be, and your life will be so much better.
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
