Having money solves all our problems, at least that’s what we think sometimes. It can fix a lot of our financial problems, but it doesn’t bring happiness. I recently watched a video on YouTube about Kourtney Kardashian, she was crying about turning 40 years old. There were multiple critics saying she should be happy because she has a lot of money compared to all of us. Also, they noted that she was crying but not explaining why she wasn’t happy. They felt like if she gave valid points on why she wasn’t happy then maybe it would have been acceptable. Ending with the comment “rich people problems.” Okay I get it she is crying on television and a lot of people are not a fan of the Kardashians, but I thought it was interesting that people think money brings happiness. When she addressed the situation, she felt like people were being insensitive by saying she couldn’t be unhappy because she was rich.
This topic was also brought up as a discussion between a colleague of mine. The person agreed that money will make a lot of people happier. I on the other hand have an opposite opinion. The person argued that if you pay people enough then they’ll be happy. I told them that is just a temporary fix. Like a band aid, you cover the scar, but it is still there until it heals. You give the people a raise and after a few months they are back to being unhappy. Why? Because the band aid was never intended to fix the scar it was meant to cover it and protect it until it healed on its own.
The money was meant to bring them temporary happiness until they were able to be happy on their own. I realize that we can’t make people happy. Most people will never be happy, and most people choose to live an unhappy life. They walk around unhappy and they live their life like that every single day. No matter what you do or say they will always be unhappy. Which is why no matter how much money you have or material things you possess you will never be happy if you’re looking for things to fix your happiness
Trust me I thought that if I had more than what I had I would be a lot happier. Maybe I will smile more, maybe I won’t complain so much, and life would be so much easier. When I got what I wanted I realized that my attitude was the same it didn’t change. I was excited for a little bit and then everything went back to normal. Until I got what I wanted again, and the cycle kept repeating. We often think getting things will make us happy because it is advertised everywhere. We rarely see people unhappy on social media and television. We think everyone is living their best life except for us. They have the best relationships, the best jobs, the best families, friends, the perfect hair, makeup, beauty, they look so perfect. We long to be like them. So, we try to look perfect, get plastic surgery to fix our imperfections. Put on makeup, wear expensive clothing and shoes, buy expensive cars to go home and cry because someone else still looks like they are living a better life than ours.
This is materialistic happiness. It’s the most common form of happiness. Having money is great. Having no money is not great. So I can understand why we think that when we get money we’re going to feel a lot better trust me it does make you feel a lot better but if you’re not a genuine a happy person then the money won’t fix your solution permanently.
Its sucks when you’re not able to pay your bills or when you’re behind on your rent or your mortgage or even worst can’t pay for your car are you don’t have a car. Most of everything requires money but it doesn’t mean that you should be unhappy because you don’t have. Some people that are rich seem happy and some people that are not rich are happy but is not all around 100% it really depends on that person. It’s how you feel in every situation you go through in life. I always try to focus on the positive things that are happening in my life and not the negative things because this can also cause you to be unhappy. The positive is what keeps me motivated not to give up.
Trust me everything is easier said than and sometimes we go on a roller coaster of emotions. I’ve have been up, I have been down, I have cried. There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself and showing your emotions. Some things are tough, but it will get.
So does money bring happiness? It can sometimes and sometimes it can’t. Sometimes it can cause more problems if that’s all you’re searching for. If you’re constantly searching for money to fulfill your happiness, then you will never be happy. If you’re constantly want more and more and more and more then you will never be happy. Now don’t get me wrong you need to have goals, shoot for the stars, but don’t believe that once you get there that you’re going to be happy. Learn to be happy right now wherever you are in life. Don’t wait until you have the house, car, career, or spouse whatever you been waiting for is going to come but while you wait enjoy your happiness.
"I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances." - Martha Washington
