How to Eat Healthy at Fast Food Restaurants?


Most people are constantly on the go. If you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, or a parent, or even a full-time employee, most of your life is consumes with putting your energy into these responsibilities. Eating out is something that is often frown upon, mainly because the ingredients isn’t usually natural and organic, and a lot restaurant food is processed. If you are busy and need to find something to eat, I have done the research for you. I visited fast food restaurants that are popular in most states and found healthy food you can eat.

#1 Chick Fil A

Chick-Fil-A is one of my favorite fast food restaurants, I know you may be thinking what I can eat from there but they have lots of healthy choices. For breakfast you can buy the Greek Yogurt Parfait it has 13 grams of protein, 34 grams of carbs, and 9 grams of fat. When you start your day, you want to incorporate healthy fats, carbs, and protein to kick start your day. If you are avoiding dairy then just order a large fruit cup though this may not have protein in it you will reap the benefits from the variety of fruits included in the cup such as mandarin oranges, strawberries, red and green apple slices, and blueberries. They also offer two healthy side items such as a super fruit salad that you can make larger for lunch or dinner and a side salad, you must remove the cheese from the side salad if you want to make it vegan. For lunch or dinner, the healthy choices include the grilled cool wrap. If you prefer this meal to be vegetarian when ordering, ask for the chicken to be removed and for the vegan option ask for the chicken and cheese to be removed. This meal is packed with protein wrapped in a flaxseed flour flat bread. Three more lunch or dinner options include their southwest salad, cobb salad, and market salad, to make these meals vegan request the cheese and meat be removed and for the vegetarian option only the meat must be removed. Chick-Fil-A has a mobile app ordering tool also so when you order you collect points which help you get free healthy food. That one of the perks of ordering at Chick-Fil-A.

#2 Zoë's Kitchen

Zoë's Kitchen has a variety of items to eat and you can use their mobile app to order your food so that you can pick it up when you’re ready to eat. What I like about Zoë's Kitchen is that they have a variety of healthy meals on their menu for every diet. They have marks beside foods that a plant base and vegetarian. Also, you can make any meal vegan just ask and they will help you. I discovered Zoë's Kitchen when I was in Charlotte, NC and I loved them ever since. They should be my number one pick for places I like to eat but I love them equally as Chick-Fil-A. Zoë's Kitchen is an option the perfect place to eat if you need something for lunch or dinner, unfortunately they do not offer breakfast. They offer a variety of soups, salads, and bowls, each meal comes in different sizes to help satisfy each individual hunger. The Quinoa Salad is delicious it has a variety of greens and vegetables to make this vegan just ask for the feta to be removed. The Mediterranean Lentil Soup is another option for lunch if you want a warm meal, this is something to have on a cold winter day, or when you feel under the weather. The Greek Salad and hummus plate come with hummus, pita bread, and a side of Greek salad, to keep this meal vegan ask for no feta, also if you prefer just the salad you can order a full sizes Greek salad without the hummus and peta bread. The bowl options are Cauliflower Rice Bowl, Power Grain Bowl, Mediterranean Salad Trio Bowl, to make these bowls vegan remove the meat, feta, and tzatziki, make sure you let the cashier know you need it made vegan so that they can tell you if any additional ingredients need to be removed. If you prefer a pita wrap get the Baked Falafel Pita, to make this vegan remove the feta and the tzatziki sauce. They also have a variety of sides that are vegan including a side of Baked Falafel with the tzatziki, Seasonal Fresh Fruit, Braised White Beans, Grilled Potato Salad, Turmeric Rice, Roasted Vegetables, Side Quinoa Salad with the Feta for the vegan option.

#3 Wendy’s

I used to eat at Wendy’s years ago and my favorite salad to get was the Berry Burst Chicken Salad of course without the chicken and feta. This is a healthy salad because not only do you get your serving for fruit you also get your serving of vegetables; this salad has a raspberry vinaigrette that makes this salad even yummier. If you want to try a different style of salad, I recommend this one highly. They also have Parmesan Caesar Chicken Salad, Southwest Avocado Chicken Salad, Taco Salad, Apple Pecan Chicken Salad, Caesar Side Salad, and a Garden Side Salad. To keep these salads vegan, remove the dairy items, meat, and cheese.

These next two I haven't eaten at in years. I used to eat at these last two when I had a poor diet and I was not searching for healthy meals at the time. I was searching for the meal with the biggest burger and I always super sized. I can be honest when I say I did that often but now I don't crave greasy food or fast food, I rather have a healthy home cook meal over any restaurant.

#4 McDonalds

McDonalds has a variety of salads to adjust based on your meal preferences. For vegan meals remove the cheese and choose a dressing that does not have dairy as an ingredient. McDonalds have a few salads to pick from that can help satisfy your cravings when you are on the go. Healthy salads such as the Bacon Ranch Salad with Buttermilk Crispy Chicken, Southwest Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Salad, and a Side Salad. Remember to keep these meals healthy opt for a lighter dressing that is free of dairy.

#5 Burger King

Burger King has a few salads that you can eat when you are rushed for time and need to eat on the go. They only have a few options, but I was able to find some that were good for living a healthy lifestyle. Garden Side Salad with mixed greens, Chicken Garden Salad, and the Chicken Club Salad. If you want this vegan remember to remove the meat, and cheese and choose a dressing without dairy.

As you can see you can eat healthy at fast food restaurants. I know life gets busy and it does for me to but knowing that you have some healthy options to buy while you’re out will keep you on this journey of healthy living. Of course, preparing your food will be the only way you can know where your food comes from but knowing you have options when you are busy makes life so much easier. Remember if you are trying to eat plant base make sure you request food without meat or dairy products.
