Willpower is something we need to survive. It’s the urge to do something no matter what. This morning was a perfect example of how our body can affect our willingness to do something. I woke up at 4:15am and I felt like crap. I fix me some lime water and put on my workout clothes and headed to the gym. I thought to myself about how I felt and why I wasn’t going to allow it to affect my workout. I performed well during my workout and since my mind was concentrating on the exercises it didn’t have time to focus on how I was feeling. When I got home, I woke the kids up for school got my daughter dressed and laid down until it was time to go. I don’t know why I felt like crap but when I got up, I felt a lot better.
Developing willpower is important, it’s how we survive in life. The things we want to accomplish can’t be done without willpower. Willpower requires you to force yourself to do things you don’t feel like doing. Some days you may not feel like getting up going to work or school. Maybe today you want to skip the gym or you’re tired of getting up early, so you want to sleep in. These are signs of giving in. When you develop willpower, you make a decision do somethings you don’t want to because you have to. You know the consequences of not doing them, so you ensure that you make that decision to push yourself no matter what.
We all can achieve anything but without willpower you won’t be able to achieve the things you want in life. Though I was under the weather this morning I still got up. I wanted to lay back down, but I knew that would only lead to consequences and then regrets. I didn’t want to be mad at myself, so I decided to get up. These are things that should constantly go through our head when we are making decisions. You weigh the pros and cons and decide will this affect my goals for the day and if you answer yes, get up. Even if you don’t answer yes, get up. Life doesn’t happen laying in the bed. We must make it happen. When your feet hit the floor, keep moving. Keep doing the things you enjoy. Stop sitting on the couch or laying in the bed feeling sorry for yourself. Realize that our willpower is the only way that we will be able to achieve anything. We can be good at a lot of things but if we don’t have willpower you will fail tremendously. I’m not saying this to discourage you I am telling you this because I know the consequences when I allow myself to lose my willpower. The last person we need to be mad at is our own selves.
So, as you go about today remember you can accomplish anything, but you must develop the willpower to get you there. There are going to be days that you feel like giving up, but you can’t give in, keep moving despite of. With every decision you make ask yourself will this affect your goals or hinder your day? The willingness to push through no matter what will move you closer to living the life you truly were meant to live.
“Most of life's actions are within our reach, but decisions take willpower.”
