“Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later”. Og Mandino
Best is defined as “excellent, effective, or a desirable type or quality.” Your best is not the same as someone else’s best. Which is why we should never compare ourselves to others. There have been times in life when I knew I gave my all and there have been times when I should have performed better. Not because I wasn’t capable at the time, I just didn’t put in the effort I needed to. Maybe I was tired and just wanted to get by with doing as little as possible or maybe “I didn’t feel like it” whatever that means.
Whenever I don’t perform well in something, I always evaluate the situation. I ask myself did you really try, or did you give up? If we are honest with ourselves, we know when we try or best and when we don’t. We know when we are coasting through life and when we are giving our all. When someone tells me they did all they could I ask them what did they do? When they finish telling me I realize they gave up because if you give your all you will accomplish anything. Yes, there is a such thing as time because that is a factor but if you work hard and give your all into whatever you are passionate about then you will receive whatever you are working toward.
I know this is true because of my own experience with life. To be honest, there have been times when I did my best and there have been times when I slacked off. I'm human I get tired sometimes, we all do. The times when I slacked off, I didn’t achieve anything. The times when I gave my all I achieve results. That's how life works. You don't receive anything sitting on the couch, or feeling sorry for yourself, everything requires effort, nothing is handed to you. As much as we wish life will just happen without us making a conscious effort, it doesn't. Life requires us to move.
In life if you try to do your best in everything then you will have less regrets. The reason why people regret is because they realized what they were capable of and they still didn’t attempt to do it. They knew the steps it took but they were not willing to put in the work. So many people are working for a job and no matter how much they hate it they still show up each day because it’s easy. They are too afraid to work towards their dream because they are tired of doing their best. I have realized that everything takes time and sometimes I get impatient, we all do, but we must not worry about tomorrow. We must focus on the present time and keep moving forward toward our goals, trying our best.
So, as you go about your day remember to try your best. Your best consistent of putting your effort in everything you do and walking away with nothing left. When I go in the gym, I always strive to leave exhausted. When I am in the gym I don’t stop working out until I’m tired, I keep going, performing exercise after exercise until I have fully exhausted every muscle then that’s when I say I am finished. When I leave, I want to walk away, exhausted, with nothing left to give. That’s what I want you to do today. I want you to give life your all because when you are laying on your death bed, I don’t want you to have no regrets.
Ask yourself today are you really giving life your best or are you slacking in some areas?
“Always Do Your Best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.” Don Miguel Ruiz
