“When it comes down to it, I let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I’m already better than them.” ― Marilyn Monroe
Learning how to take insults is something I grew into. It wasn’t always easy to not respond to someone when they are being a jerk or a bully per say. Growing up I was skinny and according to who you ask I still am. There were times when someone would say stuff and it would bother me, but I guess you can say I’m used to it now. Though there’s only so many skinny jokes that you can say until it starts becoming annoying.
I don’t have an eating habit trust me I can eat enough food for a village depending on what day it is. I have never been over 150 pounds without being pregnant. I’m too tall to be labeled as short and too short to be labeled as tall. I’m 5’4 but most people think I’m taller until I take my heels off. Being small sometimes you tend to be an easy target. Most people who find out I don’t eat meat think I’m skinny because of it. Trust me I tried to gain weight. Not to please people but for my own self. It just won’t happen. I love my size, but I wouldn’t be upset if I gained a few pounds.
Recently someone told me that I needed to do them a favor and eat a burger because I was getting too skinny. I was a little annoyed because I honestly don’t have a problem with my body so why should anyone else have one? When people insult you, they know that they are going to say something to make you mad. People don’t insult people with good compliments. If that was the case it wouldn’t be called an insult. I don’t get upset when people call me names because I am confident in myself. I am the one that must be happy with it not them. Nobody lives in my body but me so if they don’t like it that’s their problem not mine.
I just think it’s sad to see people tear others down to build themselves up because in all actuality they are the ones suffering inside. People who are genuinely happy with themselves and their lives have no time to ruin other people because they are so focused on everything that’s going good in their life. When someone is unhappy and have insecurities, they take it out on others because they don’t feel good about themselves. The fact that someone took time out of their day to analyze you shows that you matter. If you didn’t matter, they wouldn’t waste their time trying to tear you down.
I have been called all kinds of things to my face and behind my back, but I know my truth so nobody else’ opinions matter. In life not everyone is going to like you. You can try to make 100 people happy and out of the 100 one is still going to hate you. Don’t waste you time worrying about what people think of you or say about you. Insults are nothing but words with no value unless you give them meaning. When we get upset about what others say about us, we are giving them control over how we see ourselves. Focus on what makes you happy. In order to live a happy life, you must worry less and smile more.
So, remember today in life you may be criticized but if you know your truth then it really doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about you.
“You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish. I have no responsibility to be like they expect me to be. It’s their mistake, not my failing.”
– Richard P. Feynman
